Bacula – Much More Than Just Cloud Storage

Bacula goes all the way with Cloud interoperability and In-Cloud capabilities.  Contact Bacula to find out how you can benefit from Bacula and your unique Cloud strategy.

Cloud-Ready Backup and Recovery
Bacula can be deployed in the right place to protect your data, apps and any other information. On the other hand, you can precisely control where to send your backup data according to your policies and your organization’s level of sensitivity and privacy. That includes usage range requirements too, in order to efficiently use the different tiers of the cloud to save costs easily and automatically.

Direct To Object Storage
Bacula can send data to Object Storage directly from Bacula to all public clouds. This includes to custom S3 Software Defined Storage solutions with advanced control functions, such as tier definitions from Bacula’s side. But there’s more; Bacula also backs up data from Object Storage and sends it to a different instance – or to any other kind of storage. More details are available lower on this page.

Bacula supports Cloud Storage as backup repositories, compatible with:

Amazon Web Services S3 with all Storage Classes:

  • S3 Intelligent-Tiering

Advanced Cloud Management
Bacula is not only deploy-able throughout Cloud environments, but also provides exactly the technologies need to resolve common challenges when dealing with the cloud. For instance, network bandwidth can typically become a bottleneck, both when fetching data from the cloud or when sending data to it. Bacula helps dramatically via its Global Endpoint Deduplication, where only changed blocks will be transmitted for any kind of backup using it.

Another example is where Object Storage destinations implement a configurable cache mechanism where the most recent data can be kept in local disk. Therefore, data restores avoid having to read the cloud data.

Bacula has a huge range of compatibility, compared to any other backup and recovery vendor

More S3 Objects Backup and Recovery Features from Bacula:

Azure Virtual Machines Backup & Recovery:

  • Consistent Snaps
hot-based online backup of any Virtual Machine

Bacula also delivers advanced Kubernetes  and Docker Backup & Recovery both on-prem and in the Cloud.

Infrastructure as a Service Protection
A common Cloud use case is the consumption of Computation services – where Virtual images together with block storage are used for different purposes. Bacula works at the Cloud API level to protect those hosts directly in an agentless mode. Azure is fully supported today; contact us for early access to Bacula’s upcoming OpenStack and AWS which will be released soon.

Containers and Applications in the Cloud
Another common use case with the Cloud is the utilization of Containers and applications such databases or Hypervisors through managed cloud services. Bacula works with standard techniques and protocols, allowing users to protect and manage VMWare, Kubernetes, Docker, PostgreSQL, MysQL/MariaDB and much more.

Global Endpoint Deduplication

  • Reduce network traffic when protecting Cloud hosts and improve speed
  • Send deduped data to the Cloud with GED
  • Perform in-Cloud deduplication
