Bacula Systems is pleased to announce the release of Bacula Enterprise 18.2.1, introducing a range of new plugins, expanded platform support and significant enhancements to existing modules. This version continues our mission to provide the most secure, flexible, and high-performance enterprise-grade backup and recovery solution for hybrid and complex IT infrastructures.

New HPC Accelerator Plugin
Bacula Enterprise 18.2.1 introduces a High-Performance Computing (HPC) Accelerator Plugin, designed for massive file systems and scientific computing environments. This plugin dramatically improves backup performance on large-scale clusters by efficiently handling multi-petabyte data sets and supporting advanced split file set.

New OpenStack Plugin
This release includes an evolution of our current OpenStack Plugin providing direct, native integration with OpenStack environments. Administrators can now perform granular, image-level, and tenant-specific backups and restores without relying on external scripts or agents.

New LibVIRT Plugin
A new LibVIRT Plugin is now available, allowing unified backup and restore management across virtualization platforms supported by Libvirt (such as KVM, QEMU, and Xen). This makes Bacula Enterprise even more versatile in heterogeneous virtualization infrastructures.

Kubernetes and OpenShift Enhancements
The Kubernetes and OpenShift plugins have been significantly improved for performance, resilience, and namespace-level scalability. Users can expect faster snapshot handling, simplified restore processes, and improved compatibility with the latest container runtimes. Additionally, this release is now compatible with Longhorn and Kubevirt/Openshift VM.

Proxmox and QEMU Plugin Updates
Version 18.2.1 brings full support for Proxmox 9.0, along with additional stability and compatibility improvements for QEMU environments.

Support for Lustre File System Attributes
Bacula now provides native support for Lustre-specific attributes, ensuring accurate and efficient protection of HPC file systems using Lustre.

Storage Daemon Encryption Enhancements
This update includes significant encryption improvements for the Storage Daemon, with expanded algorithm support and optimized key management to further strengthen Bacula’s industry-leading security capabilities.

XenServer Plugin – Single Item Restore
The XenServer Plugin now supports Single Item Restore (SIR), enabling administrators to recover individual files or virtual machine items without needing to restore an entire VM image.

New Supported Platforms

Bacula Enterprise 18.2.1 extends its compatibility with the latest enterprise operating systems:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10
  • Debian 13 

These additions ensure that Bacula Enterprise continues to provide reliable, forward-compatible backup and recovery capabilities across modern enterprise environments. Existing Bacula Enterprise customers can download version 18.2.1 from the customer portal.
